Astrik Studio: Ctrl z, what Id, undo, redo, scrap and do all over again- the real raw and unfiltered stories

Annabelle

Designing is not a straight line. It’s a little bit curvy, a little bit worthy of scrapping, third, fourth, fifth iteration, and then you go back and do it again.

Designers press control-zed like it’s a reflex at this point, an actual reaction. It’s part of the process. Go back. Scrap that. Do it again.

The Mess Nobody Shows You

It’s the same with brainstorming, I get all these ideas out of my system, even the awful ones, because I need to see if there’s anything in there worth keeping. My actual paper bin genuinely looks like this, I have a bin specifically for paper because I throw away so many Post-its.

That’s the bit nobody sees. It’s not a straight line from idea to finished logo. It’s mess, undoing, flow state, scrapping the thing you thought was good three iterations ago.

The Ctrl-Z series is up now, watch it on YouTube and socials @astrikstudio:
